On Friday, December 13, 2024, an inmate entered the facility. Prior to the inmate entering the facility, Officer Siler advised the inmate that any drugs found once entering the facility would result in being charged with a Class H Felony. Officer Siler began to search the inmate. While searching the inmate, Officer Siler located a clear bag of marijuana. The bag of marijuana was located on the right inside pocket of the inmate's puffer jacket. The marijuana weighed approximately 28 grams. Due to Officer Siler's attention to detail and performing a systematic and thorough search of the inmate, he prevented an illegal substance from entering the facility and potentially making it to the housing unit.
Officer Shelf has shown professionalism, good judgment, and leadership to earn this title. Her capabilities and proficiency in the Housing Units during normal and active times are to be commended. Officer Shelf is on time, professional, and approachable by the staff and residents alike. Her ability to be flexible and commanding any position that she is assigned to can be emulated by all officers. Officer Shelf has been called upon to train other officers in the housing units as well as be an ambassador for new hires during their orientation process. These ideals are steadfast and we appreciate the attention and duty she has toward this position.
Sgt. Sturkie supervises and oversees the operations of the Forsyth County Detention Centers, Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC-D). Officer Batchelor is an Intelligence Analyst for the RTIC-D. Both are highly trained dedicated professionals, whose hard work, and keen attention to detail have been instrumental to the safety, security, and well-being of Forsyth County. In early December 2024, an employee of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office was approached by an unknown subject who had criminal intent. With very little information to go on, Sgt. Sturkie and Officer Batchelor identified the subject, two accomplices, and their motive, in under 30 minutes. However, Sgt. Sturkie and Ofc. Batchelor did not stop there. They continued to further investigate and monitor this situation, discovering and foiling a second criminal act by these individuals. Sgt. Sturkie and Officer Batchelor are valuable assets to the FCSO and are examples of the high level of dedication, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is known for.
