Investigator Gargiulo is assigned to the Investigative Services Division as the lead investigator of the Sex Offender Registration Unit. Inv. Gargiulo, in his role in the SORU, has developed into a subject matter expert on issues concerning Sex Offender Registration laws and procedures. He has come to be recognized by his peers and also outside agencies as the “go to” person concerning enforcement of Sex Offender Registration laws. He has developed a collaborative working relationship with the District Attorney’s Office and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
The collaborative relationships he has developed allowed him to coordinate a major Sex Offender accountability operation during the month of July 2012. He has coordinated resources from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, NC Community Corrections, United States Marshal’s Service, NC SBI, and WSPD. This operation focused on registered sex offenders who are currently on probation or other forms of post release supervision. During the course of this three day operation over 50 residences were checked, updated information was obtained on 47 sex offenders, a fugitive sex offender from the state of Georgia was located and arrested, three individuals were charged with drug violations, one individual was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, child pornography was seized from one offender and other violations of probation and sex offender registry laws were discovered and are currently being investigated for prosecution in either state or federal court.
Investigator Gargiulo invests time, energy and passion into his work and this operation. His hard work and dedication, as well as that of all the members of the SORU have lead to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office being recognized by local, state and federal officials as the model agency in the area of holding registered sex offenders accountable and helping to protect all the citizens of Forsyth County.
