COVID-19 at-home test kits available at Forsyth Health Department and libraries

The Forsyth County Department of Public Health and Forsyth County Public Library will be distributing a limited supply of free COVID-19 test kits starting Monday, Feb. 14.

(**UPDATE: All libraries are currently out of test kits.**)

Test kits will be available at the Health Department, 799 N. Highland Avenue, and all 10 libraries in Forsyth County. Limit one kit per adult. Kits are for Forsyth County residents only. No ID is required. The kits are iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test Kits, which each contain two tests. They will be available while supplies last.

The Library will offer kits at all branches from 9-noon and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Libraries will have 100 test kits each. Updates on when library branches run out of test kits will be posted on the Facebook pages of both Forsyth County Public Library and Public Health.

The Health Department’s hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday. The Health Department will have 1,000 test kits and will also have 2,000 N95 masks available at the front desk during normal business hours. A limit of one test kit and four N95 masks per adult while supplies last. One local media outlet misreported a mask and test kit giveaway for this weekend. The Health Department will not be holding a giveaway this Saturday (that event was held last Saturday).

Libraries are being used since they are centrally located in their communities, allowing easier access across the county to the free test kits. Individuals who have COVID symptoms should not come to a library or the Health Department for a test kit, but instead go to a drive-thru community testing location or contact a medical provider.

Library Director Brian Hart said that the library was happy to collaborate on an effort that supports the community.

“A core tenet of Forsyth County Public Library’s service is to help equip residents with information and resources that assist them in their daily lives,” he said. “Partnering with the Forsyth County Department of Public Health to help distribute testing kits and factual information about further preventing the spread of COVID-19 is logical and critical.”

Free test kits can also be ordered from the federal government for mail delivery at https://www.covidtests.gov/. Community testing locations can be found at https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/about-covid-19/testing/find-covid-19-tests.
