Libraries have displays for Domestic Violence Month

The Forsyth County Public Library and Bridges to Hope Family Justice Center, two departments of Forsyth County Government, have partnered for the past two years to raise awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Each branch has a table set up with purple ribbons (purple is the theme color for the month), posters, brochures, information cards and other reference materials, such as books, on the subject. Library staff also work with Bridges to Hope to provide materials safely.

“Survivors may use technology at their local library to find resources, create a safety plan, research their state’s criminal and civil statutes, learn how to get a protective order and access services,” says Bridges to Hope Director DeWanna Hamlin.

Reaching individuals and families throughout Forsyth County is important. There are several public library sites in Winston-Salem as well as Kernersville, Clemmons, Lewisville, Rural Hall and Walkertown.

"The Forsyth County Public Library is pleased to collaborate with Bridges to Hope Family Justice Center during the month of October," said Library Director Yolanda Bolden. "The library's displays during Domestic Violence Awareness Month highlight library resources and community resources that support survivors, and educate and raise awareness that leads to change."
