Overdose reversal drug Narcan available at Forsyth Public Health

The overdose reversal drug Naloxone, also known as Narcan, is now available at the front desk of the Forsyth County Department of Public Health, 799 Highland Ave., in Winston-Salem.

Forsyth County has a distribution order in place that allows Public Health workers to distribute Narcan to anyone who may be in need, either because they or someone they know are experiencing substance use issues with opioids. The Narcan, which is a nasal spray, is free and will be distributed with no questions asked.

Opioid overdoses have seen a drastic increase during the COVID-19 pandemic. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data from 2020 shows there were 93,000 drug overdose deaths nationally, more than 70 percent of which were opioid related, which is up from 71,000 overdose deaths in 2019.
