Support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at the 7th annual Out of the Darkness Walk at Tanglewood Park on Saturday, September 29, 2012! The walk begins out of Shelter 4 at 8:00 am.
WALK TO SAVE LIVES
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 14.2 minutes, claiming more than 36,000 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute; with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S., the third leading cause of death among those 15-24 years old, and individuals ages 65 and older account for 16 percent of all suicide deaths. This is a public health issue that does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity or socio economic status.
By walking in AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Community Walks you will be walking with thousands of people nationwide to raise money for AFSP’s vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide and assist survivors of suicide loss.
